How to Create a Sub Clip

What is Sub Clipping

In CORE, a sub clip is a section of an original video clip that you want to trim, manage, and organize separately for your production. You work with sub clips in a timeline as you do with your original clip. Trimming a subclip is constrained by its start and end points.

Create a Sub Clip From a Video

To create a sub clip,

1. Go to the gear icon on the Asset Player controls

2. Switch the Sub Clip toggle to the on position in the menu

3. Arrow markers will appear on either side of the Asset Player’s Scrub Bar

4. Move the markers to your desired timecode points

5. Select the blue "Save Sub Clip" button

6. The Upload Viewer will open while your Sub Clip is being created. The processing thumbnail will be displayed until the Sub Clip file is finished.

7. Categorize the clip or Skip & Share it

8. Example of Categorizing Sub Clip. Select all the desired tags and choose Submit. Once it’s categorized, the Sub Clip will now appear in your desired Asset Group and can be added to other Packages

9. For confirmation, feel free to open the clip, check the new duration of the Sub Clip, or rename the new file.

Sub Clip FAQs

• Is the sub clip source the same as the original?
  Subclipping creates a clip from the proxy, so the "Source" of the subclip is the high-rez proxy of the original.
• What data is in the sub clip file name?
  The clip when created defaults naming convention wise to include the frames of the original clip
• Why do I have to categorize the clip?
  The system treats the clip like a new file that should be categorized in whatever manner you wish
• Does every Core user have the ability to make a sub clip?
  A user needs to have Upload + Categorization permissions in order to submit a subclip, because the platform treats the clip like a newly ingested file. Because the Subclip feature is available on all video files, if a user without said permissions attempts to make a clip, they will receive an alert within the player that they need uploader permissions to submit sub clips.
